Global Management Challenge fast international growth

This has been the best year of international expansion of the Global Management Challenge. Since January four new countries joined the GMC competition, so far, the larger number of entrances verified in only one year. It is estimated that by the end of 2006 two more entrances may happen, this time of African countries.

United Kingdom, Denmark, Ukraine and Russia are the four countries that recently formalized their entrance in the Global Management Challenge. In Russia, the organization of this competition of strategy and management created in Portugal, 27 years ago, is in the responsibility of the company Labius Ltd and the National Academy of Economics. The competition has already started and in April 2007, in Macau, the winning teams of these countries will be joining the international final.

Luís Alves Costa, founder of the Global Management Challenge and President of SDG – the company that, in partnership with Expresso, the Portuguese leading weekly newspaper, organizes this one hundred percent Portuguese competition – comments that «this has been the best year of international development.» The Portuguese internationalization started in 1981, with Brazil and since then countries of Latin America, Europe and Asia joined the Challenge, 22 in total today, plus Portugal.

In recent years, the biggest international expansion of the Global Management Challenge, has been in the East European countries, with the entrance of Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania and this year Russia and Ukraine. According to SDG this is a trend that may continue, but there are already in perspective new entrances, in Portuguese language countries, namely in Africa. The SDG is in conversations with Angola and Mozambique and there is strong evidence that point these two countries will join the Global Management Challenge. If this is verified, there is the possibility of being present in the international final in Macau.
